A DAL job starts with a XML file containing general output properties, like output format, security settings and overlays.
Overlays are single page documents that can be applied over a set of selected pages. They are useful to create headers and footers, watermarks, stamps, etc.
The job file can also contain documents to be rendered, although it is more common to send the documents incrementally.
You can use almost any document as an overlay or as content. Common file types are PDF, XSL-FO, XML/XFD combinations, WordML and DOCX. The content can also contain custom TOC (Table Of Contents) and ROR (Record of Records) documents.
