Q: I'm creating an XSL-FO and including images using fo:external-graphic. When I output to PDF, I notice that my images have a lower quality than the original. Is there any way to preserve the image quality?
A: Yes. By default, PDF uses JPEG compression to minimize the output size. You can change the compression to Flate, which preserves image quality but may increase the output size. To do this, set the PDFImageCompression rendering parameter to FLAT.
