Floating Licenses

Recommended for a large number of deployments, the Enterprise License Manager (ELM) enables the use of floating licenses and a centralized way to manage all licenses an organization owns. 

Floating Vs. Fixed

Floating licenses are installed on a server in your company. The floating licenses work by allowing the clients (XF Designer, Data Architect) to connect to the server and get a lease on one or more licenses for a limited period of time (usually 1 hour), after which they have to renew the lease again. 

There are several advantages in using a floating licensing mechanism:

• Save money by buying fewer developer licenses. For example, you can have 10 developers share 5 floating licenses. If not all of them use the software at the same time, you avoid buying 5 extra licenses!
• Simplify deployment. ELM is a central location to manage licenses, including adding new ones or installing upgraded licenses.
• Peace of mind. When using fixed licensing, you will have to be careful to uninstall a license when a computer will no longer be used. With ELM you don't have to worry about this. Or about 3rd party consultants not releasing the licenses they borrowed after completing their assignment.
