Governance takes on many forms, not limited to:

  • Federal/State regulation
  • Industry standards
  • Local business rules
  • Workflow

We’ve come to acknowledge two different perceptions of governance, applicable to all its forms:

  1. Governance as Orchestration
  2. Governance as Overlying Policy

These are present in every level of governance, loosely distinguished as the self-governance of a system (this is the orchestration) and its external influence (the policy surrounding it).

Ecrion Omni System (EOS) does indeed govern itself, on one hand, with flexible production workflow features to automate (orchestrate) data gathering, template selection, document rendering, and delivery.

The other side of governance in document production is the responsibility of individual IT professionals to govern external resources as they build up the production process. In this case, EOS is the prime facilitator of dynamic document production, between the manual work and the automated system itself. Zooming further in, templates can govern the items within them – the data and digital assets they interact with – but it’s all initiated from the outside.

This is only part of the picture, because within the restraints of governance, there is always room for innovation and custom design. In this view, EOS facilitates compliance to external regulation, but if we’re speaking from the perspective of the developer, it also enforces it on your behalf (once you set it in motion).


In the most practical terms, governance is, among other things:

  • Your marketing team controlling a logo, but also your system responding appropriately to the design parameters
  • Your IT squad writing a security policy, but also the automated security policy overseeing access to personal information
  • Department managers signing off on changes to document content, but also the workflow knowing to progress from one stage of quality assurance to the next.

As it ultimately pertains to customer engagement, you want to develop a unified Voice of Company. The most effective means to this is a workflow equipped to respond smoothly to external influence, where the commands dictated are passed along just as they are meant.
