High-Volume Document Production Standards
High-Volume Production of Documents and the Importance of Public Standards
Within the last few years, the ability to reach an increasingly diverse audience has created the need for cross-publishing support. The Ecrion platform can produce documents in most popular formats used today, including PDF, HTML5, Word, PowerPoint, and more.
Today, data is scattered throughout the enterprise: customer preferences configured in the customer portal; transactional data stored in a SQL database; and contact information stored in a cloud CRM are just a few examples. This is why the Ecrion platform provides significant data integration capabilities, allowing it to retrieve and join data from multiple sources.
This input/output variety means complying with any applicable public standards becomes increasingly important in order to ensure crucial features and capabilities are not overlooked.
Compliance with public standards is not usually what you would expect from a High-Volume Document Production solution. Ecrion strongly advocates compliance with public standards because of the many important benefits for customers.
- It reduces the chance of vendor lock-in. Customers can switch vendors and reuse their work. Due to proprietary standards, switching from many vendors involves significant costs to port the document templates you have in place.
- Customers can get information from multiple sources on how features should work and what features should be available. All public standards used in the Ecrion platform are well documented, and information is readily accessible.
The Ecrion platform is compliant with the following public standards:
We implement the latest version of the open industry standard for document formatting. Ecrion is compatible with XSL:FO 2.0. Additionally, you can use most XSL parsers, including MSXML and SAXON.
Ecrion provide extensive support for PDF version 1.4 and conformance with PDF/A (long term archiving), PDF/X (professional printing), and Section 508 (accessible) PDF.
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is the most popular open image format for vector graphics. Use SVG to add shapes or gradients to your documents. Our solution is compliant with SVG 1.1.
Office Open XML is the ECMA standard that became the new default format for Microsoft Office in 2007. We support Word 2003 and later as both input and output. Note that Microsoft Word is not required.
Advanced Function Presentation™ (AFP™) is the industry-leading architecture for mission-critical transaction printing. Ecrion provides extensive support for the IBM MO:DCA standard, including NOP tags, outline forms, all image formats, and more.
DITA (Document Information Typing Architecture) is an XML data model for authoring and publishing. Ecrion supports DITA 1.3 of the OASIS standard.
